This is a restored copy of Captain Banning Driving the First Horse Drawn Stage Coach on Santa Catalina Island, California, circa 1895 by prolific famed American western photographer Charles C. Pierce, 1861-1946. For many years Pierce was the proprietor of a very successful photography studio in Los Angeles. Pierce produced a portfolio of more than 50,000 photographic prints which reside in various major historic photograph archives in California.
Santa Catalina Island is a semi arid stony island near the coast of Southern California in the Gulf of Santa Catalina. Catalina island is 22 miles long and 8 miles wide at its widest point. Catalina island is located approximately 30 miles southwest of Long Beach, California. The tallest elevation on Catalina Island is Mount Orizaba. Catalina Island is one of the Channel Islands of California and it is a part of the jurisdiction Los Angeles County, California.
