This is a restored copy of a scene from the 14th century Pre-columbian Codex Zouche Nuttall, The original was painted on animal skins and was found in Oaxaca, Mexico. This scene depicts Mixtec warrior chiefs and warlords performing a ceremony. This piece also depicts a parrot, snakes, and alligator or dragon. Warriors were very important to Mixtec culture as they were continuously in a state of endless bloody and brutal war with neighboring tribes.
