Artist's Description
We have restored this copy of a 1913 chromolithograph by Russian artist Nikolay Alekseevich Bogatov, 1854-1935. This painting is titled For the 300th Anniversary of the Reign of the House of Romanov.
This elegant montage features portraits of the Romanov Tsars and high ranking members of the Russian royal family including Peter the Great, Tsar Nicholas II, Tsarevich Alexei, Catherine the Great, Alexander I and numerous others in all their beautiful European grandeur. This piece is somewhat chilling when considering that only a few years after it was published the three Romanov family members whose portraits are in the center and who were living in 1913 were brutally and mercilessly murdered by the communist Bolshevik revolutionaries.
The Fine Art America logo does not appear on the final product.
About Peter Ogden
I have been a visual artist since the 1960s. I'm originally from Orange County, New York, located in the Metro New York City region where I was raised on the working dairy farm [Ogden Farm] which my family founded in 1832. As a young man I spent many long hours working in gardens, crop fields, pastures and in barns with livestock. I grew up surrounded by antiques. I graduated from Bucknell University where I majored in art which included a semester in Florence studying Italian Renaissance art. After Bucknell I studied at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. I have lived throughout the U.S. [including three years in Sante Fe, New Mexico], in the Caribbean and in Mexico and Central America. I now reside in the 19th century...
