Description
This is a reproduction of a classic Haida Northwest Coast Native American Orca Killer Whale painting which depicts a playful orca leaping from the sea.
The killer whale or orca is a toothed whale belonging to the oceanic dolphin family, of which it is the largest member. It is recognizable by its black-and-white patterned body. A cosmopolitan species, killer whales can be found in all of the world's oceans in a variety of marine environments, from Arctic and Antarctic regions to tropical seas; they are absent only from the Baltic and Black seas, and some areas of the Arctic Ocean.
Haida are an indigenous group who have traditionally occupied Haida Gwaii, an archipelago just off the coast of British Columbia, Canada, for at least 12,500 years. The Haida are known for their craftsmanship, trading skills, and seamanship. They are thought to have frequently carried out raids and to have practiced slavery.
The Pacific Northwest region includes British Columbia, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, sometimes: Southeastern Alaska, Northern California, Western Montana, Yukon.
The Fine Art America logo does not appear on the final product.
