Description
This is a reproduction of a 1769 Egyptian Revival print by the famous Italian artist Giovanni Battista Piranesi [1720-1778]. This fascinating architectural display includes elements and iconography of ancient Egyptology including Bast or Bastet the cat goddess, Khonsu the hawk and Apis the bull deity. Other classic ancient Egyptian motifs pictured include a grasshopper or locust, a Nile River crocodile, Egyptian hieroglyphics, a monkey, a scarab, an ankh, a pyramid, a lion, sphinxes and numerous other ancient Egyptian design elements.
Giovanni Battista Piranesi was an Italian Classical archaeologist, architect, and artist, famous for his etchings of Rome and of fictitious and atmospheric "prisons". He was the father of Francesco Piranesi and Laura Piranesi.
The occult, in the broadest sense, is a category of esoteric supernatural beliefs and practices which generally fall outside the scope of religion and science, encompassing phenomena involving otherworldly agency, such as magic. It can also refer to supernatural ideas like extra-sensory perception and parapsychology.
