Description
This is an 1859 steel engraved private bank note for one dollar from the Merchants Planters Bank, State of Georgia from Savannah, Georgia. This highly detailed engraving bears images of an antique locomotive of the period, of Benjamin Franklin, and a central grouping of Conestoga wagons and an open cargo wagon bearing large bales of cotton which was a staple of the pre Civil War Georgia economy. A few of the men in the image appear to be African American slaves. This image is made from a genuine bank note that is over one hundred and fifty years old; as a result there are visible a couple of brown oxidation spots caused by the natural aging process of antique paper.
The Fine Art America logo does not appear on the final product.
