This is a restored copy of a photograph of Shirley Plantation, James River, Virginia, a circa 1903 glass negative photograph by James Henry Jackson. Shirley Plantation was founded circa 1613 in what is now Charles City County, Virginia between the cities of Richmond and Williamsburg, Virginia. Shirley Plantation is the oldest continuously active plantation in Virginia and the "oldest family owned business" in North America. The plantation is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a National Historic Landmark.
