This is a restored reproduction of "Apollon", 1678, by Parisian painter Pierre du Puis [France 1610-1682]. This painting was created as a proposal for an opulent ceiling painting. The central subject is the Greek god Apollo with a lyre and cherubs. Apollo was the mythical Greek god of prophecy, music, song and poetry.
Pierre Dupuis or Pierre Dupuys was a French painter. He lived in Italy, where he met Pierre Mignard in 1637. He was a specialist of still lifes and his style was influenced by Northern Europe painting and Protestant religion. In his paintings of bouquets, an influence of Jacques Linard and Louise Moillon. These paintings were very appreciated in his times.
This artistic style exemplifies the French Classical Baroque which was popular with French King Louis XIV and at with the seventeenth century royals and courtiers at the spectacular Palace of Versailles.

I have been a visual artist since the 1960s. I'm originally from Orange County, New York, located in the Metro New York City region where I was raised on the working dairy farm [Ogden Farm] which my family founded in 1832. As a young man I spent many long hours working in gardens, crop fields, pastures and in barns with livestock. I grew up surrounded by antiques. I graduated from Bucknell University where I majored in art which included a semester in Florence studying Italian Renaissance art. After Bucknell I studied at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. I have lived throughout the U.S. [including three years in Sante Fe, New Mexico], in the Caribbean and in Mexico and Central America. I now reside in the 19th century...
