This is a restored copy of The Deposition and the Entombment also known as Jesus Taken Down from the Cross, anonymous, circa 1290, tempera and gold leaf on panel, from a medieval Byzantine style antique Christian altarpiece originally from a church in Pisa or Florence, Italy. Permanent collection of Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, Netherlands.
In this scene Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus are at the ladder removing the golden, limp, emaciated crucified body of Jesus Christ the Messiah from the cross at Golgotha near Jerusalem. Mary Magdalene is on the left with Mary, mother of Jesus; both are caressing the body of Jesus. Standing to the right of Jesus are St. John the Baptist and Nicodemus. A holy woman in a red cloak stands to the far left side of Mary Magdalene and Mary, mother of Jesus.
I have been a visual artist since the 1960s. I'm originally from Orange County, New York, located in the Metro New York City region where I was raised on the working dairy farm [Ogden Farm] which my family founded in 1832. As a young man I spent many long hours working in gardens, crop fields, pastures and in barns with livestock. I grew up surrounded by antiques. I graduated from Bucknell University where I majored in art which included a semester in Florence studying Italian Renaissance art. After Bucknell I studied at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. I have lived throughout the U.S. [including three years in Sante Fe, New Mexico], in the Caribbean and in Mexico and Central America. I now reside in the 19th century...

Congratulations!!!! Very nicely done. Superb image.
Peter Ogden replied:
Thank you Paul. Of course the main credit goes to the original -- I only restored this great piece.
