Description
This is a copy of an antique Victorian chromolithograph zoology naturalist book illustration of the following members of the Chiroptera or bat family: Common Bat, Vampire Bat, Horseshoe Bat, Dog Headed Bat, Fruit Eating Bat as described by the publisher Henry Johnson published in 1880.
This print was produced over 120 years ago so large reproductions of it might show some tiny antique imperfections such as tiny white spots reflecting the folksy quality of affordable mass produced book illustrations of the period.
Bats are mammals of the order Chiroptera. With their forelimbs adapted as wings, they are the only mammals capable of true and sustained flight. Bats are more agile in flight than most birds, flying with their very long spread-out digits covered with a thin membrane or patagium.
