Description
This is a restored copy of Cat, an 1897 oil on canvas painting by Henriette Ronner Knip. This European Victorian painting depicts an adorable mottled cinnamon brown and black tortoise shell colored long haired domestic reclining cat which appears to be the same Maine Coon Cat that Knip identified as such in another of her famous cat portraits: "Maine Coon Cat".
Henriëtte Ronner-Knip, 1821–1909, was a Dutch-Belgian artist who painted in the Romantic style and is best known for her animal paintings; especially cats. In 1887 she was awarded the Order of Leopold and, in 1901, became a member of the Order of Orange-Nassau. Knip often exhibited with her son Alfred and daughters Alice and Emma who also became artists.
