This is a restored copy of a portrait of the Great Lakes Iroquois woman Chee-ah-ka-tchee, Wife of Not-to-way, 1835-1836 oil on canvas by George Catlin, 1796-1872.
George Catlin was an American explorer, attorney, artist, writer, and adventurer who was noted for his portraits of Native Americans of the historical American West. While exploring the American "Wild West" on five trips during the 1830s, Catlin journaled about and illustrated portraits portraying the world of the Plains Indians.
