Description
This is a restored copy of Oosisoak, an 1861 oil on canvas painting by famed American Hudson River School painter Frederic Edwin Church, 1826-1900. Oosisoak is the personal name of the Siberian Husky or Alaskan Malamute sled dog portrayed in this painting with large arctic icebergs looming in the background.
Alaskan Malamutes are employed as sleigh dogs for personal travel, Iditarod sled dog racing competition, moving freight, or assisting in moving light cargo. Some Siberian Huskies are used for Iditarod dog sled racing, also known as mushing, as well as for skijoring, bikejoring, canicross and hauling. Most Alaskan Malamutes nowadays are maintained as family pets or for show dogs.
Frederic Edwin Church was an American landscape painter born in Hartford, Connecticut. Church was a key personage in the Hudson River School of American landscape painters who were famous for painting large landscapes, often featuring waterfalls, mountains, New York state riverscapes and sunsets.
The Fine Art America logo does not appear on the final product.
