Description
This is a restored copy of The Great Pleasure Routes of the Pacific Coast, 1885 by E. Schultze Co., Lithographers. This poster was originally designed circa 1885 to promote travel via the Southern Pacific Railroad Northern Division to the San Francisco Bay Area and the Monterey Peninsula region of northern California. The top section contains a birds eye view of the Victorian era San Francisco Bay Area and Monterey Peninsula, below that is a view of a locomotive barreling out of the Bernal railroad cut at Ocean View, beneath that is a detailed view of a locomotive chugging through downtown San Mateo. The bottom inset view promotes the Grand Hotel San Francisco on Market Street and the Valencia Street train station.
