This is a restored copy of Jydske Lov or, in English, The Law of Jutland. The original painting was created in 1891 by prominent Danish painter and illustrator Rasmus Christiansen, 1863-1940.
This chromolithograph of Christiansen's painting was published in 1898 by Copenhagen, Denmark lithographer Alfred Jacobsen and is documented in Folkelig Grafik Skandinavien by V.E. Clausen published in 1973 by Berg.
This illustrated historic Danish genre scene of the Scandinavian middle ages depicts medieval Christian crusader Danish King Valdemar II seated on a thrown outside his ancient medieval stone castle at Vordinborg surrounded by his subjects and his armed soldiers and knights at the time he signed the Law of Jutland in 1241. The Law of Jutland was the third and last of the regional laws instituted by King Valdemar II.
