Description
This is an antique Victorian era chromolithograph naturalist zoology print illustration of a majestic wild African Lion and an Asiatic Lion, both in their natural habitat as described by and published by Henry Johnson in 1880.
This print was produced over 120 years ago so large reproductions of it might show some antique imperfections such as tiny white spots reflecting the quality of affordable mass produced book illustrations of the period.
The lion is a large cat of the genus Panthera native to Africa and India. It has a muscular, deep-chested body, short, rounded head, round ears, and a hairy tuft at the end of its tail. It is sexually dimorphic; adult male lions are larger than females and have a prominent mane.
The African lion is a population of the lion in Africa. It may refer to the: Barbary lion * Central African lion * East African lion * Southern African lion ** Cape lion * West African lion.
The Asiatic lion is a Panthera leo leo population surviving today only in India. Since the turn of the 20th century, its range has been restricted to Gir National Park and the surrounding areas in the Indian state of Gujarat. Historically, it inhabited much of the Middle East to northern India.
The Fine Art America logo does not appear on the final product.
